Happy Two Months, Ian!

Dear Sweet Baby Ian,

I can’t believe that you’re already two months old! It seems like just yesterday that we first saw your precious face. Time sure does fly! The last several weeks have been filled with so many special moments and memories. I wanted to take some time to “capture” all of your little “Ian-isms” so that we’ll always remember what means so much to us at this time:

You are such a BEAUTIFUL baby! Every day, someone comments on how beautiful you are! You have full lips and crystal blue eyes. Everyone comments on how pretty your eyes look. People say that you are a good mix of both mommy and daddy. You have perfect skin, and despite losing a lot of the darker brown hair that you were born with, you’re growing a dark blonde “buzz cut” now, but still have a ring of long “chicky feathers” in the back (like a little old man :). You have perfect little fingers and toes, and you are long! At only 2 months, we’ve had to put you in 3-6 month sleepers so that you can stretch out your little legs. I bet you’ll be pretty tall!

There are SO MANY cute little habits and nuances that we’ve noticed about you. You are a pro at pushing out your big bottom lip when you’re sad. We feel bad for you, but can’t help but smile! It is so pitiful! Sometimes it quivers, and that’s even more endearing! I bet you’ll use that to your advantage throughout the years. When you’re upset, you also kick your feet back and forth like you’re riding a bike. You’re so strong and will definitely be an active little boy. You can hold your head up well, but you’ve been doing this since you were born. People comment on how strong you are at such a young age.

One of mommy’s favorite “habits” is that you LOVE to stretch, especially after eating. You will put both arms in little fists and stretch them in the air…no holding back! You also like to stretch on the changing table and in your crib. Little grunting sounds go on forever while you stretch every inch of your body. It’s adorable! You like to lay with your head turned to the left. Mommy and daddy asked your doctor about this, but he said it was fine. You must look the other direction enough because it wasn’t causing any problems. I think that you were turned like this inside of mommy…that’s maybe why you were so comfy and didn’t want to come out. :) You really don’t like being in your carseat, probably because it’s so restricting. However, once we’re in the car, you typically fall asleep pretty easily (with a little help from your paci). We love the little sounds you make when you’re sleeping…they are adorable!

Over the last several weeks, you’ve grown so much. We’ve figured out little ways to play with you and have noticed the things that you really like to do. You love to lie on your play gym mat and look at all of the colors, mirrors, and toys. You are so active and will kick your legs all over the place. You really enjoy looking at yourself in the mirror, so mommy puts you in your bouncer on the bathroom counter while she gets ready in the mornings. You are so interested in everything around you! We’ve also learned that you like watching your Baby Einstein video. It’s pretty simple…toys moving around to music, but you are captivated by it! You really like to be held, especially to the side with your head looking out. You’re not a fan of having your face against a chest or being on your tummy. You used to love your swing, but now you get upset when we put you in there (unless you’re sleeping). Maybe you’ll like it again when you’re a little older. Daddy likes to watch TV with you, especially cooking shows. Maybe someday you will be his little Sous Chef!

Bathtimes have been fun! You were a little hesitant when we first gave you a bath, but since then, you really seem to like the warm water. Mommy puts a washcloth on your tummy to keep you warm, and you like to splash the water with your legs. After your baths, we put you on the changing table and give you a little massage with lotion. You really like this! Our favorite moments over the past few weeks have been watching you learn to smile! :) You don’t give them out frequently…we have to work for them. Mommy can get you to smile by “baby talking” and grinning at you, so daddy adopted this method. It’s fun to watch daddy because he is so smitten with you. You’re smiles are adorable and you like to “flirt” with us before giving a smile, by bashfully looking away with a little smirk. We could watch you smile all day…it just melts our hearts! You seem to be happiest on your changing table when you’re getting your diaper changed, and we can almost always get you to smile here…probably because we can capture your undivided attention. :) You “talk” back to us by making cute little grunting sounds in response to our questions or comments to you. It’s amazing how you’re already communicating. You recently “found” your hands and have been exploring things around you. I’ve also noticed you looking at your feet lately when you’re on your play mat.

We could go on forever, but these are some of the special things that we’ve noticed and enjoyed about you thus far. You’re loved so much by your family and friends. We can’t wait to see what the future holds. Since Thanksgiving is approaching this week, mommy and daddy want to thank God for blessing us with you. You’re so much more than we could have asked for and we are completely in love with our little miracle. Our life has been truly changed for the better! Happy 2 months Ian!

Love always and forever,

Mommy and Daddy
