Ian's 7 Year Letter

Dear Ian,
Happy 7th Birthday!!  How is it that you are already 7 years old?  It seems like you are no longer our little toddler, but our big 1st grader!  This past year has been a good one, and you have grown up so much.
You spent most of this past year in Kindergarten at Prairie View.  You were loved by your classmates, and your teacher, Mrs. Stringer, told us how you were a great friend to everyone.  You struggled a little bit with attention and behavior at the beginning of the year, so we talked to your doctor and decided to start you on a medication to see if it would help.  The medicine made a huge difference & you seemed to do really well with it.  Your closest friends this year were Tate and Logan.  You really started to learn to read, and you have progressed so well!  It’s amazing how fast you have learned.  You don’t really love to read much because you are too busy, but when we have you sit down and focus, you seem to do great.

You played Fall t-ball and Winter basketball.  This was your first time to play basketball, so we went with the Upward Bound program.  It was nice to be on a team where everyone got to play an equal amount of time.  You seemed to have a lot of fun!  In the Spring, you played t-ball again with the Pirates, but that was the last season.  You decided that t-ball wasn't really your "thing" at the time, and daddy was okay with letting you take a break.  This season, you said you want to try basketball again, so we will see how that goes ;-).
Your favorite things activities over the past year have been playing with Legos, Legos, and more Legos.  They are EVERYWHERE!  You love for mommy and daddy to help you build things, but then you take everything apart to build your own creations.  You really like the little mini figures, so you take those everywhere.  We always find pieces in your pockets, the car, and in the dryer…hehe.  You also love to play with Nerf guns, swords, and any type of action weapon.  You also like to dress up in your costumes (Star Wars, pirate, etc.) and role play.  Kate is typically your #1 playmate, but you have developed a close friendship with a boy in our neighborhood named Dominic Antoine.  He is also in your class at school, and you guys love to play together all of the time!  You also love to go to nanny and papa’s house to watch movies in nanny’s bed…you go straight there when you arrive.

You have continued to attend Little Broncos Kids Klub for daycare, and it’s been nice to have daddy work there with you.  Your friends include Blaize, Landon, and Aiden, and you always have lots of fun with them.  During the summer, you got to go on lots of field trips to various places around OKC, including Frontier City, Andy Alligators, Chuck-E-Cheese, and many more.  Our only family trips this past year were to Branson in May, with Uncle Alan, Aunt Carrie, and Wyatt, as well as Red River in August.  In Branson, we got to ride the Scenic Railway and play in the hotel pool/splash pad (which you love).  We also go to go to White Water in OKC over the summer, and you were brave enough to jump off of the high cliff and ride the tube slides!  You are already asking when you can go back again!

Your favorite foods haven’t really changed.  You still LOVE pizza and McDonald’s Happy Meals (chicken nuggets with GoGurt and chocolate milk, to be exact).  You also love goldfish, spaghettios, chips, string cheese, and yogurt…lots of yogurt.   Your medicine causes you to not be too hungry at lunch, but in the evenings, you can eat pretty much non-stop!  Your favorite TV shows are Star Wars and Lego shows, and you love to play video games with daddy.  You are wearing size 8 clothes (youth medium) and wearing size 1-2 shoes.  You are very tall for your age, which we expected, and you’re very slender and athletic.  You could probably outrun a cheetah!  In fact, this Fall you ran 1 mile in the Western Days Stampede!

We just celebrated your 7th birthday party at Peter Piper Pizza in OKC, and you had an “Outer Space” themed cookie cake.  Another big change will be coming in the next year, as our family is expecting another baby!  You are so excited to have another little brother or sister, and we know you’ll be a great big brother.  You are so caring and helpful.

We thank God daily for letting us be your parents!  We love you so much, Ian!

Love,

Mommy and Daddy
